I bought these for my 9-year-old for Christmas and she absolutely adores them. She told me the other night that she reads them at night, right before bedtime.

My daughter absolutely loves this series. It is nice to have the box to hold all of the books to make sure none of them are misplaced for when she is ready to move on to the next book. The stories are easy to read, but long enough that it will take a while to read the books. What is nice about having to come back to the book day after day is that we get to work on reading comprehension. We recount what has happened in the story thus far, make our guesses on what will happen and read the next chapter or two.The text is not very large but it is fine for my eyes. Additionally, there are a few pictures scattered in here and there which makes it a little more fun. She gets to compare what she is envisioning with the story's pictures. All in all, this is a good chapter book for young children. I would recommend reading it while being a slightly stronger reader - maybe 3rd grade or so.

My 7 y.o. granddaughter loved them...she's started on collection #2. I'll be ordering collection #3 before I know it. I told my daughter to get that girl a library card or this Nana is going to go broke. :) She also loves the Junie B. Jones, The Boxcar Children, and The Littles series. She is an avid reader.

Exactly what I expect. Four books perfectly tailored to a young girl who loves Disney and all things fairy. The text is large enough to help a beginner keep his/her place when reading. They are large enough books to give the reader a sense of accomplishment, but not so large they become discouraged. If I had more than one niece I would definitely buy this for them all.

These are level four reading books not for age 6. More like age 8 to 12. The description should include they are level 4. Purchased for my 1st grader 6 year old granddaughter and she won’t be ready to read these for at least 2 years.

My daughter is 5, and has a very short attention span. We received it yesterday and so far she had me read 3 chapters before bedtime. This series hits all her faves, bff's, fairies, etc! I'm so happy I finally found a book she will sit through.

I bought this for my daughter's 7th birthday. She absolutely loves reading and thought this would be a great set for her to get her to the next level. Plus she always talks about peter pan, fairies and mermaids so this fits right into that theme :-)

In the first installment of The Raven Boys, you're introduced to a sixteen year old girl named blue. Everyone in her family is a psychic except for her. All her life her psychic kin have told her that she will kill her true love if they kissed. Although she is not psychic, she has the ability to heighten the power that others have. She is a walking battery. Her aunt, Neeve, comes to town,and after one look at Blue she announces that this year she will find her true love. Through a series of events she finds him to be a handsome man named Richard Gansey III (Gansey). There are only a few problems with this revelation. 1. He's a Raven Boy, an obnoxious group of boys named after their pre ivy league's mascot. Which means he's a rich dick.2. When she meets rich dick he acts like a rich dick by offering her money to go on a date with his shy but adorable friend, Adam.3. At a corpse road ritual, a few nights prior she found out that by the end of the year, Gansy might die.Gansy turns out to be great at looking for lost treasure and that is why he ended up in Henrietta , Virginia. He's been all around the world trying to find lost artifacts or ancient things no one believes exist. While looking for the treasure that lie in this small town he recruits 3 of his best friends. Ronan, a smoldering bald headed bad boy. Adam, the poor cute scholarship Raven boy. And Noah, the sweet but messy boy.I'm not gonna lie, At the beginning of this book I thought this was definitely going to be a DNF and that I was for sure going to rate it a polite, and in my opinion, generous 2. Her writing in the beginning was not appealing to me. Instead of showing us that blue was fashionable and quirky she wrote it out for the reader. Point blank. Multiple times."Blue looked at her clothing. It involved a few thin layering shirts, including one she had altered using a method called shredding. “What’s wrong with it?” Maura shrugged. “Nothing. I always wanted an eccentric daughter. I just never realized how well my evil plans were working"I'm pretty sure I rolled my eyes until they were almost stuck every time stiefvater mentioned the fact that blue was eccentric just because of her styling choices. Another thing that peeved me was her apparent obsession in using the adjective "hungry". Im almost positive that she used it at least once every other paragraph. (That's definitely an exaggeration but honestly it was a stinking butt ton).But around the 30-40% mark I got used to her writing style and I ignored any sentence that included the word hungry. After I was able to do that I quite enjoyed it. Its definitely not the best thing I've read and the plot still moved pretty slow for my taste and I absolutely loathed any chapter dealing with Barrington... But none the less it was enjoyable.

I feel everything has been said about this book, but I’ll chip in anyway.Unlike everyone in her family, Blue can’t impress people with visions or other mental abilities. According to her own words, she is a battery, making others’ energy stronger when she is around. She uses it to help the family psychic business. The other things making her special is the prophecy warning her she will kill her true love. How depressing.The Raven Boys are four very different but complementary older teenagers attending a prestigious pre-ivy league private school . The bad boy, the leader, the quiet, and the poor. Don’t worry, this is the simplistic version. Each of these boys carry secrets and burdens.Are you still with me?Now comes a quest, the strong desire of one of the boys to find something very special. Guess who is great at finding things?In the meantime, our frustrated Blue finally sees something. A boy. On a very special day. A vision that seals her fate to those of the boys.I was a little skeptical about the romance. And the paranormal. And the blurb. And the hype, of course.But I think I’m in love. Let me tell you why.The characterization makes it impossible not to fall for a character, or in my case all of them. The variety of personalities creates a likeable group you are bound to root for.Blue’s family is colorful and loveable. Yes, they are psychics. But that is not all there is to them. The author manages to play with the cliché and build a string of interesting women. They are not cardboard characters, there is a background, there is life. A mother raising her child alone, in a house full of creative minds.The boys. A novel could be written about them. Wait, it’s been done. I don’t feel like saying too much about them because I believe no words could describe them better than the ones used by the author. All you have to know is that a leader can me a thousand more things. So can me the bad boy. It applies to all of them. Maggie Stiefvater gave life to characters with distinct personalities that you can’t fail to love.Blue. Yes, it took me a while to get used to her name. Then I remembered someone had called their kid Apple, which is cute, but unusual. Blue became one of my favorite female characters. It bothers her to be seen as sensitive, but she can’t deny she is. She is friendly, curious, clever. It was refreshing not to get stuck with the strong main character with a hidden show-off super power whining about how her life is so boring until the day something happens and bam, she is transformed into a superhero. Blue is different, in a different way (this is so deep!). Her actions, the relationships she has or builds make her who she is, not her power. I cannot wait to see what happens to her in the next books. Her relationship with her mother and her family felt genuine and spot-on, differing in many ways from the usual teenagers-parents bonds we can find in books.The romance. No insta-love. No long paragraphs about longing for each other. No heavy forbidden-love atmosphere. It is only an element among many others in the plot. I really loved the way every relation was built, how deep the bonds between the boys were, and how love took its place without causing waves or demanding tear-jerking chapters.Back to the plot now. Psychics, Magic. A dead king. A quest. Trees. Nothing that appeals to me. Except this time. Everything is framed so perfectly that it creates a suspenseful and absorbing story that leaves you turning pages faster than the wind gets rid of a tree’s leaves. Don’t dread falling into something too supernatural for you, the right balance keeps you knee-deep in reality while sending you down the magic road.The writing. I don’t even know what to say. I wish I used words the way Maggie Stiefvater does. She makes the trees alive, turns conversations between teenagers into something entertaining, powerful, or the saddest thing you’ve ever read. She gives nouns and verbs a deeper meaning. Feelings become tangible. Her writing style made me hungry for more.If case you hadn’t noticed by now, I fell in love with everything in this book. The story swept me away and the characters filled every chapter with life. I finished this book last night, and I miss everything about it. Isn’t it what you call a book hangover? Don’t send my a doctor or aspirin, I’m happy here.

I bought this book in preparation for a biology course I plan on taking. Right off the bat page one they are throwing vocabulary terms at you, I've only half way made it through chapter two and and I looked at the vocabulary list at the end and I kid you not it has 122 vocabulary entries. Oh, by the way there is no definition section in the back, so you have to find the word defined awkwardly with the text itself.I know that this is a self-study guide, but how the heck am I supposed to just KNOW 122 words I have never encountered a day in my life and pass the test at the end of the chapter? This book is supposed to help you take on the class, not just be an extension of the text book assigned for the class itself.I find myself having to read the same paragraph over and over and over again to even get a foggy notion of what the author is trying to say. This book does not clear up confusion, it just leaves you in dust. Get it if you want, but don't expect it to be of much help.Put it to you this way, if I have to use google in order to make use of your book, then the darned thing is broken.

I purchased this book to get a jump on my career change. I wanted to ensure my knowledge base was up to par before I stepped back into the classroom. The book works very well for those that have the discipline to learn on their own. It covers all the topics that are required in the traditional classroom. Worth the money.

Better used as a review for college biology, not as an introductory text for high schoolers. Does not cover DNA structure.

This book is as advertised. A good supplement for a student taking a course, but probably not the best source of learning Biology by itself.

This was really helpful in studying for my teacher certification test, but it would've been even more helpful if it included more diagrams/pictures to illustrate certain concepts/processes.

Informative but a bit boring, my personal opinion. I like illustrations with color.. This book is black and white.

Love it! Very easy to follow. I actually feel like I'm learning something.

I was so surprised to see such bad quality and just few pages. BEWARE.....

Overall it was helpful to see how the test would look and how the relationship between the answers were met.

Whenever I prepare for a test, I always ask myself what might be on the test. That helps me know what to study so I can get ready the best way I know how. For this particular test, that was a challenge and I didn’t know what to answer when I asked myself what would be on the test. Luckily, someone else had asked themselves the same question and they even did enough research to find out the answer. These practice questions were a great way for me to gain access to insight regarding this test. I still didn’t know what questions would be on the real test, but the practice questions gave me a little hope and insight. I knew what types of questions to expect and how they would be formed and asked. That helped me study the right material and it helped me understand what I needed to think through in order to do well on the test. After reading just a few of the practice questions, I put the practice tests away and studied hard. Then, I went back and took a test so I could see how I was doing with my studying. I didn’t read the second test at all until I was much closer to the real test time. I wanted to take it more last minute to give myself an idea of how I’d do. Since I did well, I had confidence that I’d do well on the real test as well. Not knowing the questions on the test is the hardest part. I still didn’t know them, but I felt like I knew as much as I could in advance with the help of these practice tests and questions.

4 Stars!!!!"Rode Hard, Put Up Wet" Rough Riders Book two by Lorelei James is the second book in this steamy series.Ok, well first I have to say that Lorelei has become one of my favorite authors. She completely hooked me me with her "Blacktop Cowboys" series. This series, "Rough Riders" is another I am looking forward to reading as there are many books. 16.5 being the last one. The first book was amazing. I didn't love this one as much. It had all the sex and steam with intense heroes but I felt like something was missing for me. It could have been because there were two couple's searching for there HEA's rather than the usual one. I believe because of the back and fourth, I didn't have the usual connection to the characters. Gemma and Macie were strong woman, emotionally and physically and they were NOT pushovers. The heroes however, got on my nerves more often that not. Cash and Carter were hot, sexy alphas when it came to the bedroom (and other places..wink, wink) but they both had a lot of insecurities that made them a bit whiny for me. I was happy with the ending, their HEA's. That being said, I wasn't crazy with some of the choices Cash and Carter made when in came to the women in their lives.Gemma is a widow and an older woman in her late forties. She is ten years older than Cash. She has been alone for long enough and is ready to move on with her life. Gemma is ready to ask Cash to help her on her ranch...and with others things. ;)Cash has secretly been in love with Gemma for the past two years but she wasn't ready for him. Until now. Cash accepts Gemma's offer to help with her ranch with the intention to help with more than just chores. In fact, he makes that a job stipulation. She is the boss of the ranch but he is the boss in the bedroom. Now all he needs to do is get Gemma to fall in love with him.Macie is Cash's daughter. Macie desperately wants a father/daughter relationship with him. Cash has been absent most of her life and lets just say he is no father-of-the-year. But Macie is hopeful he wants to be a better father to her. While waiting at a rodeo for her father to meet up with her, she meets Carter McKay, a sexy, attractive cowboy. (who just so happens to work on the Bar 9, Gemma's ranch)Carter is an intense, emotional character. He is an artist and pretty insecure. You'll read about why he feels that way. He learns all this the hard way.I liked that we get a visit from characters of the previous book, Colby, Channing and Trevor. I'm looking forward to that and the next book which will feature the eldest McKay brother, Cord and girl next-door AJ Foster.

While the book is readable and entertaining, the veracity of its content is surely up for debate.I can describe my Disney World experiences as a dichotomy between indifference (my first two visits as a teenager and young adult) and utter joy (my two most recent visits as the father of two young Disney Princess-obsessed daughters). From a parent's point-of-view, I found those recent trips to Walt Disney World to be some of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences of my life. Other than the occasional child meltdown, Disney World actually proved itself as a magically happy oasis impervious to real-world misery (politics/economy) and even Mother Nature (110 degree weather in mid-July or rain). Adult common-sense, however, dictates the understanding that the process of producing a perfected final product isn't always pretty ... or public (how many popular products include the "proudly made by child sweatshop employees" disclaimer?). While Chris Mitchell seems half-heartedly determined to prove Disney World's magical image is nothing more than an expensive façade, nothing he reveals in his book (if even true) is really that detrimental , shocking ... or totally believable.CAST MEMBER CONFIDENTIAL simply chronicles a late-twenty-something's attempt to escape real-world problems (a cancer-stricken mother and no viable career path) by working at Disney World, a place reminiscent of the happy times he experienced as a child in California (Disneyland). Starting as a lower-level photography department employee in Animal Kingdom, he realizes there is a class-system among Disney employees (all known as cast members): the gopher types, management and the royalty of cast members, those who don the costumes of Disney characters. Initially shunned by co-workers as an outsider, the author finally realizes the only way to earn peer approval/acceptance is to partake in deviant behavior. Once welcomed into this "inner circle", Mitchell realizes the opportunities before him: advance his Disney career and earn the ultimate role of being a "face" character, party invitations and intimacy with a few female characters in the parks while off-duty. Reading more like a teen-angst novel, readers are taken on a rollercoaster of emotion, action and scandal as Mitchell discovers the seedy, dysfunctional nature of most all of his peers ... who happen to be the same cheery characters your kids fawn over. Paralleling the author's Disney experience is the story of his sick mother in California and Mitchell's disappointingly cavalier attitude toward her struggle (the Disney lifestyletook priority). Once the author reaches his short term pinnacle (the "Little Mermaid" as his girlfriend and an opportunity to be a face character), the bubble predictably bursts, everything falls apart and Mitchell learns a few life-lessons.I enjoyed the storytelling aspect of CAST MEMBER CONFIDENTIAL and the author has a knack of being descriptive, but not verbose ... the book is a fast read and pretty entertaining. But, I found much of the book's storylines a little bit of a stretch. I don't doubt, as normal adults, that some of the cast members have hidden personal issues/struggles, but virtually ALL of Mitchell's peers are shown to be deviants. A simple Google search couldn't confirm some of the more notable stories: a dramatic water rescue and an employee death. While the cumulative effect of events portrayed may have readers believing the book is a complete work of fiction; I think it is actually a mixed bag as I'm sure crazy things do happen in the Disney family of employees ... they just aren't broadcasted. I liked the descriptive insider tour of the parks I got as I read as well some insight to Disney's rigid approach to employment. I found the Disney-vernacular and acronyms peppered throughout the book somewhat amusing: "protein spill" (vomit), SOP (sex on property) and DAK (Disney Animal Kingdom ... although, ironically, that acronym more commonly refers to Deutsch Afrika Korps).In my opinion, CAST MEMBER CONFIDENTIAL is less a tell-all than a brief, colorful interlude in one person's life. Sure, some stories come across as embellished (or even made-up), but I enjoyed it none-the-less. Many Disney Fans will likely hate this book and the somewhat deplorable depiction of cast members, but Mitchell never comes across as having a grudge or a chip on his shoulder and that gives the book a hint of legitimacy. While the expose aspects of CAST MEMBER CONFIDENTIAL may use the Disney as a selling point, its revelations do not come close to tarnishing the Mouse Ears.

This is a very entertaining, and surprisingly touching read. Nothing ground-breaking, but some interesting backstage stories. The author states that names are changed, and some compositing is done to protect the employees, but it gives an interesting glimpse into the motivations and reality of someone who works at WDW. It's deeper than that, though I will not spoil any further here. A good read, but do understand, this is very adult material. Not for the easily offended or those who want to preserve all of the magic.

I purchased this book just because I wanted to read something about Disney. A good summary of this work is as follows: "It's outrageous crazy!"The book is narrated by a former Disney photographer and tells the underbelly of Disney World and its employees. After reading this book, I firmly believe that Darth Vader's new home suits him better than the Death Star! Drugs, sex, lies, and corporate American control; all here in a book about the Magical Kingdom.It is a great book and well worth the time to read. I'll let you decide whether it is all true or not, but in my opinion this work takes you directly to the "Third star on the right, and straight on to morning!" I highly recommend it!

Let me say at the beginning, I have no ties to Disney or its employees so I cannot attest to the veracity of the author's stories.The book in itself is surprisingly well written. The author recants his relatively short stint as a cast member at Walt Disney World in Florida. Reading some other reviews, I am guessing a lot of the work related storied are exaggerated if not downright fabricated. I am inclined to believe a lot of it because when you have that many young people in one location, shit happens, people be crazy Yo. I thought it was a very entertaining book and I actually read it on the plane to Florida on my way to Disney. I would recommend it to people like myself who want a glance behind the scenes of the invariably pristine exterior of Disney employee life.

This was waiting for me from a preorder when I got home last night, and I curled up on the couch to begin reading, forced myself to bed, then got up and just devoured the rest on this rainy morning. This book is exactly what I needed at this point of my life and it asked all those sharp questions that caused my heart to pound and tears to well up and really poked me to think about things I needed to think about again. It’s one of those books that at first feels like it’s saying things you “already know -eyeroll-“ and then you close it and realize you feel like your heart got punched.

This book is the ultimate guide in un-storying myself in the most compassionate, tender and fun way possible so that I show up every day living my life. Not someone else's version of my life. Each chapter is designed in such a way that I am able to journal my answers to questions to help me unlock beliefs that are keeping me stuck or unkind to myself. I was moved by the author's personal story which helped me identify my own shame and doubts (especially raw and loved were the vulnerable chapters about addiction and cheating). Amber Rae skillfully marries wonder and worry, so that wisdom is born. The book shows me how I can do that too. And reminds me I am not alone. It is a book I will keep coming back to again and again.

I love these types of books where they let you examine your life and go deep into the problems that we need to deal within ourselves. I’m all for self help books. And books like this one where they give you exercises and drawings and journal prompts! I wish all books were this fun.

I've been meditating for many years and have read widely in the field of contemplative practices. I've been enjoying reading "In Tune" as it is a refreshing and novel approach to methods and concepts that I'm familiar with. Wolf has a good sense of humor and a lyrical touch that is pretty uncommon in this genre. I can't carry a tune for the life of me, but this book is another good companion to my practice, deepening my appreciation for listening closely to sound and silence. Highly recommend.

Lately I've been very curious about mindfulness and have wanted to learn more about it. Since I'm a lover of music and an amateur musician, I thought this would be a good way to get into it. I really enjoyed the musical context that Wolf gives the meditation instructions and explanations and his anecdotes about other artists and musicians. I've now started to practice and will continue to turn to this book for inspiration and guidance.

In Tune is written by a professional musician who is an award winning commercial music composer and producer. He also is a lifelong meditator and mindfulness practitioner. I have a degree in voice performance and have continued to sing as well as teach voice and direct choirs, although not as my primary profession, so I was very familiar with the musical examples used throughout this book. The book is a good introduction to mindfulness for me, or anyone with a musical background. It gives comparisons, which the author calls bridges, between aspects of both music practice and mindfulness practice. For someone without a good musical knowledge, this book would likely be overwhelming.

I found this book a miracle to read and a huge boon to my meditation practice. If you meditate in any tradition, you have felt the way the silence pulses, beating a tune which you synchronize with the pulsing of the world around you. If you are a musician you will recognize the musicality of meditation, the similarity of meditation practice to musical practice, and how the synchronization is the very like ensemble playing, you and universe in a duet. I have studied with Richard and found his methods another entry into meditation. The best teachers I know come from a blend of meditation traditions and are often music lovers or musicians. His book helped me immensely, especially to meditate longer when that was my meditation, or to enjoy the shorter meditation. If you are a musician, this is a book which speaks your language and is knowing about the skills you have well developed in your field. If you meditate but seek new mantras and rhythms, this book is terrific. If you simply wish to learn more about meditation or start a meditation practice, this a wonderful place to start.

I am so deeply moved by this book. It's honestly great for anyone, and is going to be a go-to gift for all my friends in the future. Wolf's writing makes it easy for everyone to understand something we often write off as "too complicated". Mindfulness and meditation can be intimidating or tricky, but this book made it so accessible and easy. It motivated me to meditate more - even when it was difficult. It's filled with meditation techniques and tips. I truly enjoyed reading it. The language is beautiful and inspires you to find simple joy in the world. I think it would be great for anyone curious about getting into mindfulness, and any level of musical background can be helpful. I think the book is super necessary for all stressed-out musicians, and opens up a beautiful new perspective into life.

What an awesome book! It made me believe I can do meditation as well. The writer describes a connection between music and meditation and even though I’m not a musician myself, it helped me to understand the meditation process better. Plus it’s funny! Great read!
