I have had Laird's book for almost two years now, and I constantly carry it with me in my backpack and take it out to read when I am unmotivated or need a mental charge up. It is one of the best books I've come across in terms of motivation and aspiring to live a positive active healthy life. Laird gives immensely wise information and tips regards diet, supplements, exercises and aiming for a healthy positive attitude, something that sorely missing from the majority of people in this day and age. Topics such as Dealing with fear & negativity, Being the best and striving for excellence, and elite-level athletic tips on training and recovery. Laird gives a list of great natural food ideas with the philosophy of "if I can't pronounce it or don't know what it is, it's not going into my body". I would highly, highly recommend this book for all young people trying to build character and better themselves. Easily one of my favorite non-fiction books along with Wooden: A Lifetime of Observations and Reflections On and Off the Court & Epictetus, The Art of Living: The Classic Manual on Virtue, Happiness, and Effectiveness.

Laird Hamilton has the best attitude about life. You don't have to be a surfer to read his book. I, personally, can't see any way that I can be as satisfied with life as he is and as he wants 'us' to be. I envy him & his family. I bought the book for my brother who adopted his boys after age 50 because "life was too simple". He is now a single dad of a 17 & 14 year old. He is 7 years older than me and is raising them as I grew up. We would be on a hike with our family and they would just leave me, knowing, back in the 60s that I was fine and the trails had a lot more solitude for miles than they do now. I would complain that my pack (which was supposed to be my weight, always) was too heavy or I was too tired or the mosquitos were eating me alive. They would say okay and off they'd go. I would play on the trail & find my elf friends (yes) in the tree roots for awhile, then catch up with them eventually. Usually they were at the destination already and having a picnic which was a great reward. All this to attempt to say that I feel Laird Hamilton is bringing up his family with a keen independence and appreciation for life. He says we should all scare ourselves at least once a day (to live to our fullest). Wow, I so agree, and am not there yet, but still appreciate the goal.

A friend recommended this book to me, and I'm ever so grateful that he did. This book is packed full of amazing gems and wisdom, and I just couldn't put it down! It is truly food for the mind, body and soul. What stood out initially, in the very beginning, is a quote by Mark Twain: "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones that you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." After reading this book, I realized that this whole book can be summed up by Mark Twain's quote, and Laird is a living example of that philosophy. The book is divided into four sections: Mind, Body, Soul & Surfing. Whether you are an athlete seeking to improve your performance in your particular sport, an average person interested in improving your health or someone on a spiritual and soul-searching path, this book has it all!!

The pictures, the nutrition info, and the inspiration that comes out of this book are fantastic! I keep it laying around on the living room coffee table and everyone loves flipping through it. It is well put together and does inspire you to keep eating and living healthy! I'm so glad I got this book - better than I thought it was going to be. RECOMMEND! Also, you might want to know that the brown cover of the book is the slip cover - underneath is the actual cover with the blue picture of the guy paddle surfing.

Love Laird, but this book is mediocre at best. No offense Laird, you rock!

Good to read an insiders view of all the water related sports,his personal experiences in the ocean,and views.It was quite obvious Lard is loaded,but he is so down to earth and humble.Being a surfer I did not know what to think of the stand up pattle boards,now I cannot wait to try one.Laird has cast iron balls, just pull up his exploits on you-tube

Enjoyed the book...An interesting read, for sure. It reminded me a little of an expanded Mens Journal or Outside magazine article or special edition by Laird, with some personal marketing thrown in for himslef and some friends, but so what? That's the way of the world, and this is an interesting, fun book, well worth worth the reading.This guy sets a good example for all men: Get off your ass and live. There ARE no excuses.

i bought this book because i am having frequent injuries. i am a 38 year old male, very active, but my body does not keep up. Lairds book gives you many tips on what to eat, supplements, how to protect yourself and most important how to recover fast and efficient.i totally recommend this to any person who wants to do active sports beyond the age of 30

The guidebook contains only very basic information about the city and coffee region that you could find online from Colombian tourist information sites, and I'm skeptical the author personally checked out much of his information. One example is Parque Avri outside the city. We wasted the better part of the day there because it was recommended by the author. Couldn't have been more disappointed. The park is horribly organized. Ask for help and you are sent down a paved road to a small picnic area and concrete trail by a stream. The park discouraged us from using any of the other trails, even with paid guides. Locals told us the park is dangerous. Others told us you can use the trails if you drive in rather than take the metro cable. None of this was described by Andrew Dier. He simply repeated the fake advertising of the tourism department that runs the park.

Though on a particular region, the book contains the best brief account I’ve read of the history of the whole country, especially the recent drug war. Dier's 45-page “Background” section is very good and clearly based on his reading of some sources (which he identifies). TEN of these pages are on the recent period. While at least part of his intended audience is younger adventurers (hiking, clubbing, etc.), I think this book would be very helpful to all travelers. I'll be using it on my upcoming trip.

Don't be deceived by the title. Only a minor portion of this thin book is dedicated to Medellín and the coverage for the city is superficial, at best. The coverage of "Coffee Country" is decent, but similarly lacking in depth. Nearly all the information can be found in the Colombia Moon Guide, though I don't recommend it, either.

Very helpful. We expect to visit there next February.

Book has two maps showing Centro and Pablado and some surrounding towns. Could have used complete paper map of the area. Good description of the surrounding coffee regions and parks.

I liked the setup of the book. It's in sections. First starts out telling you about juicing and how it benefits your health. The next section breaks down major illnesses by categories and how to juice for the particular illnesses. The third part is various juice recipes. The back of the book gives you other health references. It is a nice general over all view of juicing, particularly if you are a beginner.

It was surprising to see how different juice tastes and combines than you would expect. I'm a pretty good cook, aced the home ec course and did pro serv on top of growing up in a family full of chefs, but could not figure out the flavor combos in juicing. Thankfully Juice Lady has figured all of that out...and then some.She has a number of juices that can help nourish your body to help it be it's best. I wouldn't say this is a replacement for regular medicine, but proper nourishment is absolutely a good way to avoid or shorten a majority of the health ailments that impact us, and Cherie has definitely done her research on the what's what in nutrition. Love this book, love the flavors, and whole heartedly recommend it to anyone looking for recipes that are yummy and helpful!

I bought for a gift for my father-in-law who just started getting into juicing to lose weight and address some health issues. He loved how detailed the book is and that it has specific recipes for different ailments and diseases

good reading but very confusing.pros:a lot of info about juicing.good info about healthy living.good and tasty recipes.cons:does not cover some issues i have.when referring to some recipes on certain pages it is NOT THERE! like the: sweet dreams on page 342...the biggest issue: I wish it was organised in a way that when it gives you the recipes it will refer to what it is good for. you have to go back to the book and look for it...very annoying!

I love this book. Cherie Calbom gives wonderful information about juicing, reasons to use certain juices to help certain health problems and it is very easy to understand. I saw her on a documentary called "The Truth about Cancer" with Ty Bollington and I knew I had to look her book over. I bought a wonderful juicer from Best Buy for $59 and I am really enjoying my juicing experience. A must read!

I really enjoy this book as a reference book. She grazes over many interesting studies (which I would actually enjoy exploring in greater depth). I almost wish there was MORE book to get in more detail about certain topics. But as this book was intended I think she keeps to the point and maintains a clear objective.

The energy level one experiences in juicing is so real! I recommend this book for anyone who desires to get healthier and achieve freedom from GMOs and unhealthy, unsanctified food of this world! "Lets eat sanctified food" summarizes Cherie's cry and she has the academic credentials and the expertise to back up her claims! Very specific for all types of sicknesses to be cured God's way!

This book is awesome! It has so much information, much more than I imagined! It is very helpful for all kinds of health conditions, and diseases. It teaches you how important it is to cleanse your colon, intestines, gall bladder, etc. It has alot of recipes for all kinds of a cleanse, for cravings, for weight loss, for just wanting to get in better health, etc. I would recommend this book to everyone who wants to get in better health or just wants information.
