Our Jr. high starts at 6th grade, and I guess I thought that was normal in most places since it has always been that way where we are in Michigan. Thinking this was geared toward Jr high and high school aged girls I picked this up for my middle school age daughter. We read together every night, and since the mean girl issues have come up since the 4th grade, I figured summer was a good time to read this together and have discussions as we go (headed to M.S. in the fall). While I think this will be valuable later on, we just weren't ready for some of the discussions yet. Putting this one on the shelf till later.

I love these books - this one, Idol Girls, and Sexy Girls - they are aimed at teenagers and yet are full of things that help older women as well. I loved reading this and having it help me understand some parts of me as well as helping me better relate to one of the teen girls I work with. This is a must-read for anyone working with teens. Sometimes you forget about the mean girls in high school and this book will help you get back to remembering that they are there and how to help teen girls around you deal with them.

This is by far the best book I've read on the subject. Hayley DiMarco presents the subject from all angles, with a solid biblical perspective, in a way that girls can relate to. She asks the hard questions like "Why might I be the victim?" challenging girls to look at themselves and what they might be doing to provoke the aggression. She discusses what to do when girls do find themselves under attack, as well as presenting a life-changing perspective on how God can use this to develop their spiritual walk. If you only buy one book on the subject, this is the one to get!

Mean Girls by DiMarco has some great points to offer and she helps spell out what different kinds of mean look like. Unfortunately, she repeats a lot of the same information in different formats and the book becomes redundant. I have been using this book for a junior high small group and it became difficult to really get into any meat after the first 3-4 weeks. For an individual girl, I think it can be helpful to label the subtle ways girls can be mean and ways they can move beyond mean to live a life committed to God first. I appreciate the way she calls it what it is and challenges teens to raise the bar in how they are living. I think watching the movie, Mean Girls, adds more to the book, even though the two are unrelated. Overall, it is a decent book.

Excellent work! Biblically based with specific ideas and strategies of how to deal with difficult and mean people (and not just kids!). But it also challenges the reader to look into their own hearts and examine their attitudes and behaviors as well, to be sure the reader isn't also acting as a mean person. Hayley has a skilled way of communicating, with humor, directness when needed, and undergirded with encouragement and hope. Really helpful! Thank you, Hayley!

This short book is a valuable tool in fighting the 6th grade meanies....no matter how sweet the girl, these meanies attack at this age.Parents, particularly mothers, can be of so much help if they are on top of this to begin with and work through the issues with not only their own daughter, but their friends. This book is a wonderful basis for a girls'group bible study, with different moms helping lead if possible. We ALL need help in this area and everyone benefits from confronting the issue and dealing with it in this comprehensive way as presented by the author.

I think I came across this book because GOd knew I needed to read this amazing book..All of my life ive struggle with mean girls till this day I still do..Ive read this book and I couldnt put it down..yes it has a lot of repitions but its only to remind us whats important to keep in mind..Im really glad I came across this book..I just wish I could have read it when I was younger..I highly recommend it!!

Love this book. Bought one for every couple in our family for Christmas. Bought little white buckets and wrote Enjoy Life and the couples names and filled with Hershey’s Kisses and attached a gift certificate for a scavenger hunt that can be done in any city that I bought online. Everyone loves it!

I bought this as a Christmas present for my parents. They are now empty nesters and are always going places and doing things. I thought this would be a neat way for them to write down all their adventures they plan to do. I will be purchasing again in the future because I think it’s cute as a wedding gift as well.

I got this as a Christmas present to keep track of all the stuff my partner and I wanted to do together. Great layout on the pages. What's nice is that you can review the activity and list what you enjoyed about it.I unfortunately did not see (and this was my bad) the married couple on the front...definitely not the message I wanted to send, yikes. But some strategically placed stickers took care of that :)

Have filled out a few pages, I'm looking forward to having this for a long time.Honestly I have no complaints. It's well made, and I like how the pages are set up with room for your bucket list item, and then room to write the story about how you accomplished it.They should make one for a new graduate too, I can see people buying that in June.

I bought these for my 9-year-old for Christmas and she absolutely adores them. She told me the other night that she reads them at night, right before bedtime.

My daughter absolutely loves this series. It is nice to have the box to hold all of the books to make sure none of them are misplaced for when she is ready to move on to the next book. The stories are easy to read, but long enough that it will take a while to read the books. What is nice about having to come back to the book day after day is that we get to work on reading comprehension. We recount what has happened in the story thus far, make our guesses on what will happen and read the next chapter or two.The text is not very large but it is fine for my eyes. Additionally, there are a few pictures scattered in here and there which makes it a little more fun. She gets to compare what she is envisioning with the story's pictures. All in all, this is a good chapter book for young children. I would recommend reading it while being a slightly stronger reader - maybe 3rd grade or so.

My 7 y.o. granddaughter loved them...she's started on collection #2. I'll be ordering collection #3 before I know it. I told my daughter to get that girl a library card or this Nana is going to go broke. :) She also loves the Junie B. Jones, The Boxcar Children, and The Littles series. She is an avid reader.

Exactly what I expect. Four books perfectly tailored to a young girl who loves Disney and all things fairy. The text is large enough to help a beginner keep his/her place when reading. They are large enough books to give the reader a sense of accomplishment, but not so large they become discouraged. If I had more than one niece I would definitely buy this for them all.

These are level four reading books not for age 6. More like age 8 to 12. The description should include they are level 4. Purchased for my 1st grader 6 year old granddaughter and she won’t be ready to read these for at least 2 years.

My daughter is 5, and has a very short attention span. We received it yesterday and so far she had me read 3 chapters before bedtime. This series hits all her faves, bff's, fairies, etc! I'm so happy I finally found a book she will sit through.

I bought this for my daughter's 7th birthday. She absolutely loves reading and thought this would be a great set for her to get her to the next level. Plus she always talks about peter pan, fairies and mermaids so this fits right into that theme :-)

In the first installment of The Raven Boys, you're introduced to a sixteen year old girl named blue. Everyone in her family is a psychic except for her. All her life her psychic kin have told her that she will kill her true love if they kissed. Although she is not psychic, she has the ability to heighten the power that others have. She is a walking battery. Her aunt, Neeve, comes to town,and after one look at Blue she announces that this year she will find her true love. Through a series of events she finds him to be a handsome man named Richard Gansey III (Gansey). There are only a few problems with this revelation. 1. He's a Raven Boy, an obnoxious group of boys named after their pre ivy league's mascot. Which means he's a rich dick.2. When she meets rich dick he acts like a rich dick by offering her money to go on a date with his shy but adorable friend, Adam.3. At a corpse road ritual, a few nights prior she found out that by the end of the year, Gansy might die.Gansy turns out to be great at looking for lost treasure and that is why he ended up in Henrietta , Virginia. He's been all around the world trying to find lost artifacts or ancient things no one believes exist. While looking for the treasure that lie in this small town he recruits 3 of his best friends. Ronan, a smoldering bald headed bad boy. Adam, the poor cute scholarship Raven boy. And Noah, the sweet but messy boy.I'm not gonna lie, At the beginning of this book I thought this was definitely going to be a DNF and that I was for sure going to rate it a polite, and in my opinion, generous 2. Her writing in the beginning was not appealing to me. Instead of showing us that blue was fashionable and quirky she wrote it out for the reader. Point blank. Multiple times."Blue looked at her clothing. It involved a few thin layering shirts, including one she had altered using a method called shredding. “What’s wrong with it?” Maura shrugged. “Nothing. I always wanted an eccentric daughter. I just never realized how well my evil plans were working"I'm pretty sure I rolled my eyes until they were almost stuck every time stiefvater mentioned the fact that blue was eccentric just because of her styling choices. Another thing that peeved me was her apparent obsession in using the adjective "hungry". Im almost positive that she used it at least once every other paragraph. (That's definitely an exaggeration but honestly it was a stinking butt ton).But around the 30-40% mark I got used to her writing style and I ignored any sentence that included the word hungry. After I was able to do that I quite enjoyed it. Its definitely not the best thing I've read and the plot still moved pretty slow for my taste and I absolutely loathed any chapter dealing with Barrington... But none the less it was enjoyable.

I feel everything has been said about this book, but I’ll chip in anyway.Unlike everyone in her family, Blue can’t impress people with visions or other mental abilities. According to her own words, she is a battery, making others’ energy stronger when she is around. She uses it to help the family psychic business. The other things making her special is the prophecy warning her she will kill her true love. How depressing.The Raven Boys are four very different but complementary older teenagers attending a prestigious pre-ivy league private school . The bad boy, the leader, the quiet, and the poor. Don’t worry, this is the simplistic version. Each of these boys carry secrets and burdens.Are you still with me?Now comes a quest, the strong desire of one of the boys to find something very special. Guess who is great at finding things?In the meantime, our frustrated Blue finally sees something. A boy. On a very special day. A vision that seals her fate to those of the boys.I was a little skeptical about the romance. And the paranormal. And the blurb. And the hype, of course.But I think I’m in love. Let me tell you why.The characterization makes it impossible not to fall for a character, or in my case all of them. The variety of personalities creates a likeable group you are bound to root for.Blue’s family is colorful and loveable. Yes, they are psychics. But that is not all there is to them. The author manages to play with the cliché and build a string of interesting women. They are not cardboard characters, there is a background, there is life. A mother raising her child alone, in a house full of creative minds.The boys. A novel could be written about them. Wait, it’s been done. I don’t feel like saying too much about them because I believe no words could describe them better than the ones used by the author. All you have to know is that a leader can me a thousand more things. So can me the bad boy. It applies to all of them. Maggie Stiefvater gave life to characters with distinct personalities that you can’t fail to love.Blue. Yes, it took me a while to get used to her name. Then I remembered someone had called their kid Apple, which is cute, but unusual. Blue became one of my favorite female characters. It bothers her to be seen as sensitive, but she can’t deny she is. She is friendly, curious, clever. It was refreshing not to get stuck with the strong main character with a hidden show-off super power whining about how her life is so boring until the day something happens and bam, she is transformed into a superhero. Blue is different, in a different way (this is so deep!). Her actions, the relationships she has or builds make her who she is, not her power. I cannot wait to see what happens to her in the next books. Her relationship with her mother and her family felt genuine and spot-on, differing in many ways from the usual teenagers-parents bonds we can find in books.The romance. No insta-love. No long paragraphs about longing for each other. No heavy forbidden-love atmosphere. It is only an element among many others in the plot. I really loved the way every relation was built, how deep the bonds between the boys were, and how love took its place without causing waves or demanding tear-jerking chapters.Back to the plot now. Psychics, Magic. A dead king. A quest. Trees. Nothing that appeals to me. Except this time. Everything is framed so perfectly that it creates a suspenseful and absorbing story that leaves you turning pages faster than the wind gets rid of a tree’s leaves. Don’t dread falling into something too supernatural for you, the right balance keeps you knee-deep in reality while sending you down the magic road.The writing. I don’t even know what to say. I wish I used words the way Maggie Stiefvater does. She makes the trees alive, turns conversations between teenagers into something entertaining, powerful, or the saddest thing you’ve ever read. She gives nouns and verbs a deeper meaning. Feelings become tangible. Her writing style made me hungry for more.If case you hadn’t noticed by now, I fell in love with everything in this book. The story swept me away and the characters filled every chapter with life. I finished this book last night, and I miss everything about it. Isn’t it what you call a book hangover? Don’t send my a doctor or aspirin, I’m happy here.

I bought this book in preparation for a biology course I plan on taking. Right off the bat page one they are throwing vocabulary terms at you, I've only half way made it through chapter two and and I looked at the vocabulary list at the end and I kid you not it has 122 vocabulary entries. Oh, by the way there is no definition section in the back, so you have to find the word defined awkwardly with the text itself.I know that this is a self-study guide, but how the heck am I supposed to just KNOW 122 words I have never encountered a day in my life and pass the test at the end of the chapter? This book is supposed to help you take on the class, not just be an extension of the text book assigned for the class itself.I find myself having to read the same paragraph over and over and over again to even get a foggy notion of what the author is trying to say. This book does not clear up confusion, it just leaves you in dust. Get it if you want, but don't expect it to be of much help.Put it to you this way, if I have to use google in order to make use of your book, then the darned thing is broken.

I purchased this book to get a jump on my career change. I wanted to ensure my knowledge base was up to par before I stepped back into the classroom. The book works very well for those that have the discipline to learn on their own. It covers all the topics that are required in the traditional classroom. Worth the money.

Better used as a review for college biology, not as an introductory text for high schoolers. Does not cover DNA structure.

This book is as advertised. A good supplement for a student taking a course, but probably not the best source of learning Biology by itself.

This was really helpful in studying for my teacher certification test, but it would've been even more helpful if it included more diagrams/pictures to illustrate certain concepts/processes.

Informative but a bit boring, my personal opinion. I like illustrations with color.. This book is black and white.

Love it! Very easy to follow. I actually feel like I'm learning something.

I was so surprised to see such bad quality and just few pages. BEWARE.....

Overall it was helpful to see how the test would look and how the relationship between the answers were met.

Whenever I prepare for a test, I always ask myself what might be on the test. That helps me know what to study so I can get ready the best way I know how. For this particular test, that was a challenge and I didn’t know what to answer when I asked myself what would be on the test. Luckily, someone else had asked themselves the same question and they even did enough research to find out the answer. These practice questions were a great way for me to gain access to insight regarding this test. I still didn’t know what questions would be on the real test, but the practice questions gave me a little hope and insight. I knew what types of questions to expect and how they would be formed and asked. That helped me study the right material and it helped me understand what I needed to think through in order to do well on the test. After reading just a few of the practice questions, I put the practice tests away and studied hard. Then, I went back and took a test so I could see how I was doing with my studying. I didn’t read the second test at all until I was much closer to the real test time. I wanted to take it more last minute to give myself an idea of how I’d do. Since I did well, I had confidence that I’d do well on the real test as well. Not knowing the questions on the test is the hardest part. I still didn’t know them, but I felt like I knew as much as I could in advance with the help of these practice tests and questions.
