We in higher education have been talking about and feeling the impact of the "perfect storm" (decreased state and federal funding, increased tuition and fees, and more need for college degrees) for almost two decades. We have tinkered around the issues with technology, various business models, and financial aid processes without much success. I think it's time we try something other than tinkering. Dr. Goldrick-Rab's recommendations in this book are insightful and based on evidence, so let's stop tinkering and fix the issues. We have many of the answers in this book. As Dr. Goldrick-Rab writes, “We, as a society, recognize that a person without a high school degree can hardly survive in the United States, so we do not attach a price to public high school (…). Yet when it comes to college, we charge even the very poorest among us as much as $15,000 a year.” We as a nation can do better than this -- we must. This one book can stop the storm.

Sara Goodrick-Rab and colleagues six year longitudinal study of low income students making their way through the financial maze of college completion is a must read for anyone concerned about the future of higher education. Her data-rich analysis situates the work in the changes in state and federal policy over a half a century and how decreasing state funds to our public institutions means that it is no longer feasible for students to work and pay their way through college. She challenges many assumptions about why low income students do not complete college and offers a way forward. A practical, clear-eyed vision for how our nation can benefit from the talent of all who aspire to obtain a college degree, regardless of family background and socio-economic status.

Bought this for a higher education finance course last semester. Hands down this is one of the best books I've read recently, and something probably every administrator and politician should be required to read. Very well written and interesting, if not a bit depressing.

As a faculty member of a local community college, I see firsthand what Dr. Goldrick-Rab discusses in her book. The study data along with the testimonials and experiences offered by the students featured throughout bring true light to the issue of economic struggle in our Higher Education system in the United States. Dr. Goldrick-Rab focuses on the quantity of students affected by this issue, but more importantly, she focuses on the quality or lack therof of their lives and their education because of the impacts of the issue. It is a wonderful read, and I strongly advise that more educators and legislators read and listen to the advice for change that Dr. Goldrick-Rab offers in this powerful book!

This is an important book that everyone should read- especially if you are fighting for a better higher education system in this country which does not include massive debt for its students. Well written and very well researched, yet an easy read which doesn't get too into the weeds to follow.

An important volume that humanizes the struggle of today's college students to pursue not only their education, but their life dreams in the face of dwindling financial support and demoralizing popular narratives of "coddled college students." A must read for people who are trying to further understand why attaining a college degree is increasingly difficult, and the lengths students go to pursue their degrees. From housing and food insecurity to mounting student loan debt, Sara Goldrick-Rab provides an in-depth examination of what college students face when their support systems are eroding away to nothing.

A great read. I highly recommend this book for those interested in understanding the challenges facing low-income (and other) students struggling to pay the material, financial, emotional, and psychological price for a higher education in the current education market.

Bought it because I needed a comprehensive road map to a new 7 Plus. OK, let's start with the camera department. Minimal information, generically given. No luck in seeking an explanation to HDR at the top of the photo screen (new to Iphone) in the photo chapter, so went to index. Nothing. (Went to Google, OK, there's the answer) In particular, the Index was so inadequate........e.g., dozens of topics indexed under "U". Why? Because it's the first letter in "Using". I've read a lot in a lot of years, am technically fairly competent, and have never seen one this bad. Went to Barnes and Noble nearby, glanced at David Poque's Iphone manual. found all I wanted in three minutes, bought his book.I gave this two stars, because I didn't read most of it. Don't doubt it would have earned one if I had.

I’ve never been so intrigued, amazed or shocked by a book, or such type of information. This is not your typical book about “reincarnation”. I had questions and this book has answered more questions than I asked. It has even invited me to ponder more and ask more, it’s a big step further to the usual life after death theories or experiences. You cannot flip the page or go onto the next section until you have fully grasped what you just read.You must to read this book with an open mind and ponder before making any assumpions or attack an example. The person getting angry about an example in the book of “a mass murderer” completely missed the point. The author is giving examples of highly evolved souls that could go to a low vibrational level, which means highly evolved souls could also devolve, as simple as that. The only energy that can never devolve is Chi aka God, creator of energy and whom we come from.Is not hard to understand the book if you give it time, is a lot to take in and this is not the type of book you read in a day or two. You read and you will ask yourself questions, is valid, later in the book those answers begin to show up and even then, it is valid to doubt about lots of things that do make sense (things that some of us had not been exposed to before). If you ignore everything and attack the info and examples given, then you have completely missed the words.Also, it doesn’t say you must always be nice and good and let others step on you, is just as simple as “mind your business” and focus on your own good without harming others, or stop messing other people’s lives just because you aren’t happy with yours. If someone is toxic to you, it means walk away, not stay and be nice to them, clear and simple. That is why is important to understand the examples of this book and the extensive incredible information. This is why we don’t evolve, because instead of asking why or look for an answer, people attack, negatively judge and continue living in a nutshell. Some seem to be afraid to believe. If an author tries to sell something, you can ignore it, but don’t desist on looking for answers. That is the point of this topic.

This book is nonsense. I bought it in hopes that it was going to reveal truths, but it is not to be believed, not one word. For example, it goes on about how the most highly evolved souls were Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, etc. That is utter garbage. Mohammed was a mass murderer and rapist. Don't tell me he was a highly evolved soul. That's just pandering to political correctness. It angers me. The book also tells us that existence is about being in a race to become the fastest soul to evolve. What garbage. We should split our energy into many incarnations at once because in that way we will "evolve faster". WTF. Is it really supposed to be a race? Is it supposed to be our goal to beat out everyone else and win the race? And it emphasizes positive and negative energy, and we're supposed to love each other and spread positive energy. Keep that garbage to yourself. Life is a lot more complicated than that, and we aren't supposed to be nicey nice all the time. It's just sickening. The author is catering to the nonsense that is believed now, and it is offensive politically correct horse manure.

This is an amazing book. It is full of very important and interesting facts about all the things I have always wondered about. This is a must read for anyone who is searching for more out of life. I hate to compare, but this book follows where Brian Weiss left off, only this is much more in depth. Dr. Gabor is able to ask the Master Teachers in depth questions about life, pain, reincarnation, death, immortality, G-d, and many other things. This book is more in depth than many lives, many masters. Dr. Gabor's client, Mia, has a very special gift that we can all learn from if we open our minds and are willing to understand. This book is easy to read, and it is hard to put down. I can't wait for Dr. Gabor to write more books from more research. I highly recommend it!

A must read if you are even a little bit curious why you are here and where you are going after this lifetime. This is a scientific investigation of the after life. Well written and relatable to the reader. Dr Gabor knows the right questions to ask and the answers are amazing. She lays out the unexplainable and the ununderstandable in words that at least give us the concepts we cannot conceive. This is ground breaking work Dr Gabor is presenting. Best book to explain the cycles of our lives. I bought additional copies for friends to read. I feel that strongly that this is a Great Book.

This book should be reviewed in three ways: worth of substance, appropriateness of method and index of meaningfulness. There's no question about the substance: if you don't care about the biggest picture, you don't have much to say, and not much can be said about your stance. This work cares about the biggest picture: an ambitious project which few contemplate, but this work at leat attempts, and goes far in respect of approach. The method collects anecdotal evidence, a qualitative method which works when combined with conceptual analysis, biometric evidence and statistical probability. Academic criticism will always find a way to criticize, people who appreciate will always rise above academic criticism. Let's have a look at what makes anything meaningful. Take a weeping parent whose baby has died, far too prematurely in life. Listen to someone whose story is utterly fascinating yet trapped. My reading of this book influenced me to consider the difference between reaching the way on and the way out. There's a huge difference, and I was offered the way that makes sense to me, and for that I am grateful.

It's hard to find an all encompassing text for oral surgery but this is the best. Perfect before rounds or the OR. Its step by step how to work up and cut cases. So many pictures.

This book is great. Perfect for preparing for surgery and understanding the important points of the whole scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. The Atlas would also work great as a read prior to written and oral boards. It's clear, concise and helpful for ALL levels, from intern to a trained oral and maxillofacial surgeon. I would recommend this to any resident or training program. The charts in the back are easy to understand and a great resource for a quick review. Not to mention, it has more clinical photos than any oral and maxillofacial text I've seen. I enjoy reading the Atlas and recommend to anyone looking to improve their knowledge in the field.

The Atlas is an exceptionally comprehensive and perfectly concise OMFS text. The list of contributing authors is vast, including many of the top names in our field. The format of techniques, indications/contraindications, and complications is easy to read and recall and the pictures are some of the best you'll see in any text. This book is an excellent resource for residents, attendings, and anyone else looking for a comprehensive review book for oral and maxillofacial surgery

Excellent book for review of full scope OMS. Very useful before cases and rounds. Great for studying for boards. Nice and straight to the point with lots of pertinent photos to walk you through.

I have found this publication a very high-yield and comprehensive review of OMS and a great guide for prepping for both the written and oral OMS boards. Great clinical pictures and descriptions of surgical procedures, not just diagrams.

This is an excellent book, whether you are looking for a review of procedures or just starting residency. I wish I had this book when I first started residency. Great pictures as well as concise information. Would highly recommend, it is a must have!

I first got the Mark Wilson Course in Magic back in the mid-70s. I had gotten some of the basic magic kits and wanted to learn more about how to do more impressive illusions (tricks.) This book is THE bible on learning about magic. There are card tricks, rope tricks, coin tricks, silk tricks, silk and coin tricks and even how to build some of your own stage illusions. It shows you not only how to do various tricks but how to handle various items and it teaches you various principles of magic. It breaks down everything into effect (what it will look like,) secret (what makes it work) and presentation (a step-by-step guide on how to do it with illustrations.) When I started performing as a kid at backyard carnivals and talent shows, most of my routine came from this book. 35 years later it still has many of my better illusions. My first book is gone ("borrowed" by someone who didn't return it) and I have bought several different copies, some given as gifts to new magic students.You want a book to learn about magic, this is the first book you will want to buy.

Great book! My significant other is a bartender that does magic tricks to entertain his customers, I bought this as a gift for him and he loved it! There were a couple tricks he knew but has a LARGE variety of other tricks he has learned. Very impressed!

I owned this volume way back when I first started in magic, it was referred to me by a friend who owns a magic shop and he said once you read this and try some of the tricks it would be a really good start, the tricks that are within its pages, some are very easy and some are even stage illusions, many are now dated but I have found that with some rehashed patter and some updated workings these tricks are timeless,I own the Tarbel volumes and I find myself going back to this more often then not!This is well worth the price if you are serious about magic and remember to keep all that you learn to yourself and keep magic as much fun as it has always been...

Definitely buy this one if you want to learn magic! There are many different kinds of tricks in it, each type categorized into it's own section/chapter. The different chapters cover stuff like card tricks, coin/money tricks, vanishes and re-appearances, handkerchief magic, sponge-ball magic, illusions, and much, much more...Don't go into magic as a beginner without this book, and I'm saying this from experience after having impressed my friends with a lot of the stuff I learned from it! Trust me, you will learn a lot of stuff very quickly from this one. And if you practice a lot of these, you could possibly pull off a party gig...

Did you know that the ending ON in silicon was chosen (by Thomas Thomson) to stress the analogy of this element with both carbon and boron? I didn't. Along with such kind of historical details, Greenwood and Earnshaw's book contains a great deal of information (data, tables, graphs, etc.) about the elements of the Periodic Table and their corresponding compounds. The material is logically organized in 31 chapters, which are followed by 7 appendices (1341 pages!). This chemistry bible should stay on the desk of every chemist and scientist alike.

This is a good book for graduate studies. It list the elements by chapter which would be helpful for reference. I recieved the package promptly and in very goo condition too! Would definitely buy from seller again.
