UPDATED REVIEW : Attentive Editors, Authors, and Publisher!Amazing how within a few weeks Dr. Qayed and Elsevier were willing to listen to my feedback about the unsuitability of the product in its initial form for an electronic review, and made editorial changes on the Inkling platform to allow for interactive assessment as per prior formats. This increases the usability of this resource exponentially and far exceeds the back and forth flipping of the print edition. The interactive edition interacts like a quiz format with the ability for you to check your answer. Well done for your attentive feedback!ORIGINAL REVIEW : No Interactive Electronic Inkling / Expert Consult Interface, Regressed from 9th Edition Despite Content UpdateWas excited for the review and assessment to be updated with the 10th edition, and as a previous user of the 9th edition, was excited to have the Expert Consult / Inkling electronic version with interactive assessments to review these updated questions. Unfortunately, the Inkling version does NOT have any interactive component and while still in the Inkling platform, does NOT track or offer an interactive mode to review the question content. This makes it even more cumbersome and unusable as you have to tab between question and answer sections in order to use. Elsevier has a new online webpage module that offers 3 exams, but I think this is supplemental as this does not seem to be review-able by content section, and does not reflect the questions written for the book. Further this supplement is a web module that requires a browser, internet connection, and is separate from Inkling. This edition misses the Inkling platform advantage completely and is a major editorial oversight since the Inkling platform as demonstrated in the 9th edition is versatile enough to accommodate this. Would highly recommend the Expert Consult team to adapt the 10th edition to reflect the interface of the 9th edition as an interactive electronic interface is a huge draw for this book and it would be a shame to update the content and regress in this manner.

This review book is easy to read and comprehensive. The high-yield topics in GI and hepatology all seem to be covered. I also liked the clinical cases and the references to the Sleisenger textbook. This book is exactly what I wanted.

This Old Kingdom trilogy has to be one of the best Fantasy series I have read. The world Garth Nix creates is truly original and enthralling. I loved the build-up from 'Sabriel' to 'Lirael' to the climax of 'Abhorsen', in which the Charter mages attempt to bind and break, Orannis, the Destroyer; who plans to kill all Life and rule over a kingdom of the Dead. To do this, Lirael must enter the river of Death and there use the bells and the sword Nahima at great risk to herself. Unlike some readers, I always felt that Lirael was the strongest and most interesting character in the series. In 'Abhorsen' she fully grows into her role as the Abhorsen-in-waiting, when together with the help of her faithful Dog she finds the courage to face Death.I found the descriptions of the Nine Gates in the darkly misted river of Death as fascinating as the clear, icy beauty of the Clayr Glacier in the previous book. The author's descriptive prose is magical. His characters are also captivating, both human and creatures. I loved both Mogget, the cynical cat, and the loyal Disreputable Dog.Without giving anything away, I found the conclusion unexpected, and satisfying; even though it brought a tearful reaction.Wonderful world-building. Engrossing storyline.

I picked up the Kindle edition of Garth Nix's Sabriel to fulfill a "Dark Fantasy" requirement of a reading challenge. I believe it did fulfill that role, technically, although it didn't feel that "dark" to me.I'm not a believer in plot summaries full of spoilers in reviews, so I'll try to avoid too much of that. Sabriel does deal with necromancy and the dead quite a bit, which is why I believe it falls into the Dark Fantasy subgenre. That being said, the overall tone of the book is not dark although the heroine does face constant difficulties and challenges.I would note this book is sort of in a crossover area of YA and Adult Fantasy. The heroine has just graduated from school and is fairly immediately pulled into a "fate of the world" type situation. Also, although there is a hint of romance in the plot, it's extremely minor and there is nothing explicit to the romance at all. With these two factors in mind, I see why it's often considered YA, but I would not let that stop you from reading it even if you generally avoid YA books.I like that the magic system and universe is unique. The necromancy in this book is well fleshed out and is more focused on putting the dead to rest or keeping them dead rather than raising the dead. The necromancy is only one facet of the magic system, with at least two other fairly interesting magic systems at work (Charter and Free), as well as some nifty magical constructs. The cast of characters is fairly small but the characters that do appear are interesting and well developed.Overall I really enjoyed this read and look forward to reading the sequels. I do think that if I'd first read this when I was younger I would have absolutely adored it. As an adult I still liked it quite a bit! It looks like there are also many other short stories, novellas, and novels set in the same universe (The Old Kingdom/Ancelstierre).

He looked at the baby again, and added, almost with a note of surprise, "Father of Sabriel." ***Oh, what a wonderful little book. I loved Sabriel so much. She was so tough and just got things done.She received a message from her father and she knew things were not right. She wasn't sure if he was dying or what was happening at first. She received his sword and other things through a messenger. She was to be the next Abhorsen of sorts.This message takes Sabriel on a journey to find her father and find and kill the evil that is happening across the land. It's a bit creepy at parts which is good =)She has a sidekick named Mogget that she picks up at her fathers house. He's a cat and he talks and he is really something different. And he is also bound from being free.Then they pick up one more person that Mogget names Touchstone and he was a guard to the Queen. There's a big story there but you can read it yourself.They go on a journey to get away from the evil that is trying to kill Sabriel while trying to set things right. Sabriel has powers herself but she can only do so much.The end of the story was pretty amaze balls. I look forward to the rest of the books =)Happy Reading!Mel ❤️

I randomly picked up this book at a used bookstore, it was missing both front and back cover. Only thing I was able to see was the name: Sabriel. I had no idea what the book was about or even what kind of book it was. Thankfully I was bored out of my mind, and something about reading a book I had no idea what was seemed like a small adventure. Haha, but enough about that. I'm so glad that I gave this book a chance. Sweet, fun and very interesting. Admittedly it is a book for young adults, but still it gave me enormous pleasure. The world is so interesting and well put together, the dead that refuse to stay dead is actually quite scary. Magic system is very intriguing as well. It is also interesting with some of the characters that are good, but at the same time you feel like you cant count on them to stay so. This gives the book a extra layer in my opinion. I read all the books in this series, I must admit that Sabriel was the one that struck a cord with me the most, but all the books are truly enjoyable and you should definitely give it a go. Thumbs up! :)

I was sent this book to review months back... I really wanted to like the book and had hoped that it might be useful. I am an acupuncturist/ SE therapist practicing for 38+ years. So, I am viewing this book through several lenses. As an acupuncturist, I found the application of the 5 elements in regard to classifying a human being, to be somewhat stagnant and stiff. The 5 elements were not meant to be used to "classify in stone" a human beings symptoms etc. They are meant as a guidepost to making sense of the clinical picture before us as clinicians in present time. I was trained in classical 5 elements from Toyo Hari, which adheres closely to the Classics of Chinese Medicine. This application I believe comes from the Worsley view, which is different and they apply the elements differently. That being said, as a practitioner one spends a lifetime learning, internalizing, pondering these theories, these elements... So as to embody and know what they are. To have them presented in such a shallow way is insulting to the medicine itself. This is a deep subject and theory. This is something a book will not convey in short order and actually becomes quite confusing to the layperson or therapist who has not been rooted in Classical Chinese medicine. It remains either a chart on the wall or just words in a book... How does classifying a patient as one element or another lead to any better clinical understanding? What I fear is going to happen, is that therapists are going to worry more about what element a patient fits in and not having a grasp on the theory becomes confused about it all. As an acupuncturist, I would like to see this talented author tailor a book for the acupuncture community using some of the points, prescriptions and treatment protocols that the Worsley folks use because that would be relevant and useful. The author put a lot of work and time into writing this book and that is great and is to be commended. I just think presenting the 5 elements to the layperson/therapist who has had little exposure just muddies the clinical picture and causes confusion.

My mom and myself have heard story after story from this book. Each story is usually followed by a similar one from his childhood. I've thoroughly enjoyed the insight into my father's early life.
