I'm about half way through reading this nifty little book. It's a quick read, but fascinating. I'm learning a lot of interesting facts about life in Biblical times. The book was written in the early 50s, so the language is a tad formal and some of the terms are archaic, but that does not detract from my enjoyment of it. I highly recommend to students of the Bible, especially kids and teens. It's written in a way that they would understand and enjoy.
Received my book. received it fast. Dust jacket was falling apart, but thats not the fault of the seller, it's an old book. Others have complained that the customs in this book refer to muslim, islamic, and arabic cultures. To an extent, this may be true, but the author does a fantastic job relating these cultural points back to the bible with backing scriptures. This is not the begin all / end all book for cultural background information, but is a great source for cultural backdrop information for the beginning bible student. This book definitely helps lay a foundational understanding for additional cultural studies.
I learned a good deal from this book, but it could be greatly improved by some illustrations of, say, camel saddles, instead of depending on long descriptions alone. It felt tedious toward the end, which I felt was due to writing style rather than subject matter, but I got through it.
The book is very informative. I found nothing wrong with it.

Very enlightening! I love how this book helps you get a better understanding of biblical stories. this book helps to answer some of the "why" questions we have about some of the statements and/or actions in the bible.NJ
The book is great, it will be used to teach our students in our Christian school. The pastor using it says it is very, very good, extremely interesting. The condition was supposed to be "used - very good." It was definitely used, but not in very good condition. Bent cover and stained pages does not equate "very good" in my opinion.
Just what he had wanted!
